Are you a creative, dynamic and resourceful person who is ready for an exciting avenue for your pastry creativity?
Prepare for a career in Baking & Pastry Arts at Wake Technical Community College with a two-year associate degree program. Additionally, there is a certificate option available which students can complete in a year or so. Classes are offered during daytime and evening hours.
The Baking & Pastry Arts curriculum is designed to prepare students with the skills and knowledge required for employment in the baking and pastry industry, including restaurants, hotels, independent bakeries and pastry shops, wholesale and retail markets, and high-volume bakeries.
The Baking & Pastry Arts degree provides students with practical hands-on and theoretical training in the areas of:
- Artisan and Specialty Breads
- Special Occasion and Wedding Cake Decorating
- Buffet and Plated Desserts
- Restaurant Production Desserts and Breads
- Petits Fours and Pastries
- Classical and European Pastries
- Chocolate Artistry
- Sugar Confections and Show Pieces
- Pastry Show and Competition Pastries

Our goal is to prepare students for quick entry into the workplace. Graduates of our program should qualify for entry level positions such as baking/pastry assistant, area pastry chef and assistant pastry chef. With experience, advancement opportunities may include pastry chef, cake designer, and bakery manager. This program also provides students with the skills and knowledge to start their own business.
