Uniform Policy for Culinary Labs
Uniforms and Knives may be purchased at any restaurant apparel or equipment store or online. Some of the places that have assisted students in the past include United Restaurant Equipment Company, Beck's Cutlery Sharpening Service, Shirley K’s, American Apron and Restaurant Apparel, Holly Park Uniforms, Chef Wear, and Apex Embroidery. All uniforms, knives, and other tools are available at the Wake Tech Bookstore on Main Campus.
| Hat |
Chef hat, white, either cloth or paper. |
| Neckerchief |
White, cloth, tied in a chef’s knot. |
| Pants |
Solid black, black and white striped or checked and hemmed. NO JEANS. |
| Shoes |
The upper portion must fully cover foot and be a non-porous material, sole of non-slip non-leather material. Black preferred. Socks must be worn. |
| Apron |
White, cotton or cotton blend. |
| Jacket |
White, double-breasted, long sleeves, cotton or cotton blend, and buttoned from throat to waist. Full name embroidered on left breast, half-inch tall block letters, upper and lower case, black thread. Pen or pencil, paper, Sharpie, and Instant-Read Thermometer are also required for each Lab. |
The complete uniform must always be worn when working with food in the kitchen or demo lab and when cleaning work areas.
All uniform items must be kept neat, well repaired, and very clean
Jewelry and other accessories should be limited to the following:
- Watch with tight fitting band, no bracelets.
- Wedding band or ring with a closely attached stone.
- Earrings not larger than a dime and nothing dangling lower than a half-inch from post.
- Necklace may be worn beneath the neckerchief and chef’s jacket.
- Facial jewelry may not be worn in any lab.
- Fingernails must not protrude beyond the tip of the finger. No nail polish or fake nails.
- Hair must be tucked under the hat or tightly pulled back and secured at the nape.
Students must be in complete uniform before entering the class.
All parts of this policy, which do not require a purchase, are effective immediately.
